Dear Peoople of St. Patrick Parish,
As we come to Mass today, we have the opportunity to pray, reflect and realize God’s love for each of us as we look upon the Body of Jesus hanging on the cross and bless ourselves with the Holy water and make the sign of the Cross, saying, “In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Amen.
At the time of Jesus’ death, the Roman government used crucifixion as a punishment to deter crime. The Cross was a sign of hate and a bad thing.
Today, we reverence the Cross with the image of Christ hanging on it as a sign of love, hope, mercy, forgiveness and a sign of God’s love for all people who Jesus died for on the cross, to bring them salvation and the promise of eternal life.
To the followers of Christ, we thank God for letting Jesus give His life to save us.
Do you have a crucifix hanging in your house and has it been blessed and do you pray before it and let Jesus help us as we pray for our many intentions and needs?
Today is also known as Catechetical Sunday, as we begin the new school year teaching our children about Christ and His Church and to learn how to love and serve God in our daily lives.
Our Catholic Schools were founded to make this happen in the educational formation of our Catholic Youth.
Our Parishes must also provide Religious Education for our children that do not attend a Catholic School.
Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, Sacramental Preparation is how the parish provides the teachings to our youth.
Yes, parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of their faith. Catholic School teachers and Faith Formation teachers give of their gifts and talents to reinforce the teachings we hope are being taught and lived in the home.
Thank you, all teachers and support staffs that make this possible here at St. Patrick Parish.
Let us all pray for the teachers, students and families, to help them as they lead our children to God.
God Bless,
Fr. Larry Young
